About Prima Materia

"They have compared the "prima materia" to everything, to male and female, to the hermaphroditic monster, to heaven and earth, to body and spirit, chaos, microcosm, and the confused mass; it contains in itself all colors and potentially all metals; there is nothing more wonderful in the world, for it begets itself, conceives itself, and gives birth to itself."

In alchemy and philosophy, prima materia, or first matter (Prime Matter), is the ubiquitous starting material required for the alchemical magnum opus or Great Work and the creation of the philosopher's stone. It is the primitive formless base of all matter similar to chaos, the quintessence or aether.

Here at Prima Materia, we take the otherwise obscure, hidden, and allegories presented in alchemical text and apply them in a practical sense. Moving from theory to operative alchemy. From my own experience with the practice, alchemy can be seen as the rectification of a substance so that its truest potential is seen and actualize. Tearing apart all things that cover its essence, purifying and recombing them, allowing that thing to become exalted. Returning to a state of complete wholeness and perfection. 

And that is our role within the mineral, vegetable, and animal kingdoms; to break away the falsehood that hides the truth of that things expression, drawing down more and more of that Divine light into the physical realm. Each work is done with patience, grace, and in accordance with the Emerald Tablet. Bringing it to a truly philosophical medicine.
